Fruit I won't be growing

For her birthday recently, our duaghters bought Janet a hamper of exotic fruits. They reminded her of 'home' and some grew in her parent's garden or were commonplace in the market. Not all of the fruit come China and South East Asia but many of them were very familiar. In particular lychees, dragon fruit, star fruit, guarva, mangoes (of which there were several different types in the hamper), mangosteen and rambutan. The latter are particulalry tasty. They are the red, hairy looking fruits in the front. I we enjoyed it very much!

  1. How delicious and what a treat for Janet. Our greengrocer sells those black boxes of medjool dates - so delicious and quite unlike the weird little 'gloveboxes' we used to get at Christmas when I was a child. I've eaten guava, starfruit, lychees and mangoes - but not rambutan or mangosteen. What thoughtful daughters you have!

    1. It was an inspired idea that went down well. I realise that as we get older our daughters rack their brains for gift ideas for us. We have not sampled the dates yet - but it won't be long!

    1. Some of these must be familiar to you too Kirsten. I dont think the deliver driver would be too happy if durian was included!

  3. What a lovely selection! I often wondered about dragon fruit, and then bought some frozen fruit which included dragon fruit, which turned out to be very pleasant.

    1. When you cut open red dragon fruit (there is a white variety) they are the most vibrant colour. When at their best they are very sweet but sometimes disappointingly not.
